About Green Bay Campground

Overview

Surrounded by clear waters of Lake Pend Oreille which is Idaho’s biggest and deepest (at 1,158 feet deep, there are only four deeper lakes in the nation), and at 43 miles long (111 miles of shoreline), the newly renovated campground has 17 sites and provides the ideal getaway for people looking for a remote, but highly rewarding, camping experience on the peaceful shores of the Lake. These sites are reached by boat or long walks from the parking lot.

Recreation

Visitors can enjoy all types of boating from kayaking to canoeing to power boating.

Fantastic birding and wildlife viewing is available from the campsite or a short drive to Mineral Point Trailhead.

Swimming is a popular summer pastime and with beach access at the campground, visitors won't have any problem cooling off during warmer months.

Facilities

Green Bay Campground can only by trail from parking lot or by boat. No drinking water is available and this is a pack it in, pack it out facility. Picnic tables, tent pads, and campfire rings are provided.

Natural Features

Dug out by Ice Age glaciers and located amid three major frontal ranges of the northern Rocky Mountains, it has natural splendor to go with a fascinating human and natural history.

The lake has a very active and visible population of ospreys that can be seen diving into the lake to catch fish. Bald eagles are common, and wildlife from moose and deer and bear to spawning kokanee salmon can be spotted around the lake. Seasonally, migrating waterfowl including swans, geese and ducks are common in many areas of the lake. Lake Pend Oreille is also known for its kamloops (a species of giant rainbow trout), mackinaw and kokanee salmon.

Nearby Attractions

The Mineral Point Trail can be accessed from the campground or from a nearby trailhead. Garfield Bay can be accessed from a short drive from the campground parking area. Numerous sites can be accessed by boat from the campground.
