About Umpqua Off-Season Campgrounds
Overview
The Umpqua National Forest manages four developed campgrounds outside of peak season. Toketee Lake Campground, Boulder Flat Campground, Island Campground and White Creek Campground are first come first serve and require payment via the Scan & Pay app onsite through Recreation.gov app. All sites can receive snow in the winter months so please check the weather and plan ahead.

Natural Features
Visitors to the Umpqua National Forest are often taken aback by the unique landscapes of southwestern Oregon. High Cascades glaciation, whitewater rapids, and explosive geologic events have shaped the distinctive landscape on the 983,239 acres of forest that provides spectacular scenery as well as an abundance of natural and cultural resources.
Verdant stands of hemlock, fir and cedar transition to forests of mixed conifers and hardwoods at lower elevations, while alpine ecosystems dominate high peaks.
The translation of the word "Umpqua," meaning "thundering waters," defines the area. The Forest's waterways and diversity create desirable habitat for many species of fish and wildlife, in addition to providing outstanding recreational opportunities to our local communities and visitors.

Experience 172 miles of diverse river and mountain landscapes along the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway. Travel from rolling oak-covered hills to towering coniferous forests, amid some of the most unique geologic features. From roaring white-water rapids to inter canyon lava flows, this drive will take your breath away. The highway travels alongside the Upper Rogue and North Umpqua Wild & Scenic Rivers that contain world class fisheries.
